Karmic relations and the Moon’s Nodes

The role of the Moon’s Nodes can be very significant in synastry, particularly when it comes to “strong karmic relations”… When the Nodes of one person are found in conjunction with the personal planets, horoscope’s angles (or their rulers) of another person, than we can rightly suspect that this is a karmic relation, especially if the conjunction of one person’s South Node is with a personal planet of another person… The South Node often brings the energy down of that planet to a lower octave, thus it may feel somehow enchained and without possibility for growth. The nature of the South Node in synastry is to slow the other person down and to somehow “return it to the past”…

Venus in the chart of Rade Šerbedžija

The famous Croatian actor (of Serbian descent), a poet and musician, Rade Šerbedžija has Ascendant in Libra, while the ruler of his Ascendant (Venus) went to 12^th house (the house of past life), therefore, this actor is also in this life somehow “tied” to his past life.

Of course, we may suspect that this is some sort of a past-life love story, where it took a lot of faith and hope (Venus in Virgo is in the fall). As the Venus carries along Jupiter and Neptune from Libra, the rulers of 7^th (relations) from the 12^th, but also Chiron (wound, pain) from Libra, this only additionally confirms its connectedness to some “painful” love from his past life, which gets “revived” in this life by the relations with his second wife, a well-known movie director Lenka Udovički, as it is precisely her having her South Node on Rade’s Venus! If we look at the depositor of Rade’s Venus, than we can see that it is retrograde (problems…). Mercury going towards Pluto (transformation, danger…), so the memory of it was rather painful… However, as all this is in 11^th house (the house with a potential to set ourselves free, analogue to the 11^th sign, Aquarius), than it is precisely that some dangerous life circumstances take him, through transformation, towards setting himself free. He was brave enough to “melt” with dangers, he “dived in”… (retrograde Mercury – his final depositor, going towards Pluto).

However, as his life with Lenka, even though they have been together for already 24 years, he has faced some very painful moments, but it is precisely that those painful moments have transformed him and bring them even closer, as they say themselves… Only after they started living together, the war in the area of the former SFRY started, this was in the early nineties of the past century, they had to run away… He was shot at in one café in Belgrade, however, luckily, the outcome was not fatal… He was against the war and he was loud in expressing it, and, even today, he is quite well known as having nostalgia for the past Yugoslavia… Soon after that, they made their home in Slovenia. “These were very difficult times…”, says Lenka…. Their first child, their daughter Nina, they used to bathe in the sink… Later, they moved to London and, after that, to the United States, precisely, to Los Angeles, where they developed their artistic careers, starting from scratch… The family expanded, they got two more daughters, Milica Alma and Vanja. In the fifth decade of his life, Rade was working on building of his career in a new language, in a new setting…

In the early 1990s, Rade (at the time when he met Lenka) was 44, he had already had one marriage, two children, while the young Lenka was really young, being only 20 and having just completed Movie and Directing Academy. They met in the north of Vojvodina, in Subotica, in a movie festival… Šerbedžija, in this way, got an opportunity for love when he laid his eyes on the young director of Latino-American roots and with dark curls, who won his heart at first sight… “Our first encounter happened at the Subotica Theater during football championship. Although I was focused on the game I was watching, I also managed to notice Lenka. She was standing at the door and she was sort of asking something my friends. I exchanged few words with her, so I did not even notice that this actually turned out to be quite a long conversation. When Lenka stepped out, my friend Inge Appelt said: “This little girl is the one you will marry…”

Lenka Udovički

Two decades younger Lenka Udovički had already known pretty well who Rade was, as he had been a part of her childhood through the roles she used to watch on TV.

At the time she was in the Venus period (from 14 to 22), which in her chart is in Capricorn and in conjunction with the Sun (an actor, but also an essential signifier for a man, husband, in female horoscope), which made a separating (past) square both with the Moon (wife, family) in Libra as well as with Uranus (divorce, setting free) in the same sign – so, this in Lenka’s chart was precisely the picture of Rae, an older, mature man, who has already had a family, wife, as well as a divorce…

Rade’s first marriage was with a well known dance professor and choreographer from Zagreb, Ivanka Cerovac, with whom he had a son, Danilo, and a daughter, Lucija, and whom he divorced in 1987.

“I did not plan to fall in love, I planned to have a career, but he won me over with his simplicity, honesty and boyish spirit that I recognized in him…” – said Lenka.

Ten days after that, they started living together, Rade moved in with Lenka, into her small, student’s apartment, in an attic. He moved in with her bringing only one suitcase. They married next year, in 1991… The depositor of Lenka’s Venus is precisely Saturn, almost at the degree of the Moon’s exaltation (3° Taurus), so no wonder that she got a huge family with Rade, having three daughters (Taurus is a female sign, the place of Venus’s seat and Moon’s exaltation, the two most significant female principles)… 

Directive South Node and Ascendant

The following supports the idea that the role of the nodes is rather significant in this story. In the year when she met Rade, Lenka’s directive axis of the nodes was precisely over his natal 1/7 axis (relationship), more precisely, the directive South Node (as everything in the directions moves by 1° for 1 year) of Lenka on the day of her solar return, 1^st January 1990, being at 4° Libra 26’, at the very Rade’s Ascendant, which clearly points out that she somehow “invites” him that year to a karmic love, love from the past…

On the other side, in the secondary progressions she had her secondary Venus at 29° Capricorn 59’, at her natal Mercury (carrying along her South Node – the past, which is on Rade’s natal Venus), which also clearly points out some end, some karmic love, love from before (the symbolism of 29°), however, also, to another beginning, which will soon follow (when the Venus comes to 0° Aquarius)…

The touch between the Sun and Venus

During the life, when it happens that the Sun in progressions (the natural representative of the series 5 – love) moves over the natal Venus (the natural representative of the series 7 – relations), this can usually be an “alarm” to suspect that some love story is in the air. Namely, it is precisely during 1990 (the progressions done on the date of his solar return), when Lenka enters Rade’s life, that his Sun in the progressions got to 16° Virgo 05’, only after having completed transit over his natal Venus (the ruler of Ascendant in the 12^th) at 15° Virgo 31’, by which the story with Lenka, his past life love, is somehow “opened up”…

That 15° Virgo is really a significant place in the chart of this person is also confirmed by the horoscope of his past life (Dwadasamsa chart), where we find the Sun precisely (the natural representative of the series 5 – love) at this degree, precisely at 14° Virgo 39’, which is within the permitted orb of up to 30’.

On the other side, the very Lenka in her chart has the conjunction of Venus and the Sun and, if we do secondary progressions for 1^st January 1991 (the date of her solar return in the year when she married Rade), then we find an exact conjunction of the secondary Sun and secondary Venus at 1° Aquarius, which surely points out towards a love story that will get opened up by this solar return.

“Return to the past” during this life is an opportunity to fix circumstances from before, meaning, to improve the circumstances ahead of us, as the past creates the present, and the present creates the future… Finally, nether the past nor the present nor the future exist; time as a category – does not exist… Everything has already happened… If someone enters your life to put their South Node onto your Venus, try to “dive deep” into yourself and to make the “difficult” circumstances as light as possible…
